Where: CenterPointe Community Bank (2500 Cascade Ave in Hood River, OR)
Cost: Free to current GTA members, $5 entrance fee for non-members
Topic: Mobile Broadband: Entering the 4G Decade
Today’s wireless networks and technologies are the culmination of massive innovation and investment and represent some of humanity’s greatest achievements. However, this is only the beginning of a new era of computing and communications that will be enabled by new wireless technologies such as WiMAX and Long Term Evolution (LTE), and that will lead to a wealth of new mobile platforms and applications.
The presentation will cover: broadband developments in general; bandwidth requirements of different applications; latest Wi-Fi developments; an overview of current cellular networks; definitions of first generation to fourth generation (4G) technologies; technology evolution over the next five years; network architectures; capabilities as well as limitations; fixed-mobile convergence; femtocells; mobile platform developments including smartphones, netbooks and smartbooks; and applications best suited for wireless.
Peter Rysavy is the president of Rysavy Research LLC, a consulting firm that has specialized in wireless technology since 1993. Projects have included analysis of technology capabilities, strategic consultations, system design, white papers, articles, courses and Webcasts, network performance measurement and test reports. Rysavy Research LLC moved operations to Hood River in 1998.
As always, the meeting will include snacks and an opportunity to meet and network with GTA members and guests.
See you there!
