LOCAL STEVENSON, WASHINGTON BUSINESS SHIFTS WITH ECONOMIC TIMES
In an effort to benefit her customers and the community during current difficult economic times, local Stevenson business owner, Rita Tidyman, is excited to announce a transition to the off-price market at her clothing and gift store, Duck Soup. Tidyman will work closely with West Coast suppliers and purchase overstock merchandise at highly discounted prices from names such as Macy’s, Outfitters, Anthropologie and others. These items will reflect top lines and designer labels. The inventory will all be handpicked with select sizes and colors. XCVI is just one label that is currently carried by Nordstrom and will be sold at Duck Soup for a sizable price difference.
Duck Soup will continue to carry some current lines such as Willow, which is a favorite of regular customers from the area including Hood River, Camas and Stevenson. She will also maintain an inventory of shoes including Clarks. Plus jewelry will still be available from several local artists.
Duck Soup has been in business since 2001 when Tidyman opened the store on First Avenue in Stevenson. She moved to the current location at 350 SW Highway 14 in 2004 and noticed a dramatic increase in walk-in business with the more visible storefront. Tidyman moved to Stevenson in 1994 from Ketchikan, Alaska, where she owned a curio shop that catered to cruise ship passengers. She and her husband initially relocated to Portland but found that the Columbia River Gorge reminded them of Alaska and chose to purchase a home in Stevenson.
Tidyman is hopeful that this shift in her operation will allow her business to thrive so that she can keep the doors open. 2009 has been a very difficult year in the retail market, especially for high end clothing. She is extremely appreciative of the support her business has received from repeat clientele which has allowed the shop to remain open. Duck Soup will continue to provide personalized service to visitors from all over the country, especially guests at Skamania Lodge, as well as their loyal local customer base. Many items are available at the store now. Visit Duck Soup at the west end of Stevenson for a delightful shopping experience at new, lower prices.
